If pregnant can i be around a child who is diagnosed with rheumatic fever?

Yes: Rheumatic fever develops as a result of inadequately treated strep infection. Strep throat is very common, and it is likely that many pregnant women are around kids with strep. Certainly take precautions to avoid spreading illness (wash hands, don't share food/drinks, keep toothbrushes separated) and if any symptoms develop see your doctor for evaluation and treatment if strep develops.

Rheumatic fever: This condition is a result of having untreated strep throat. Usually once diagnosed the patient will receive belated therapy with antibiotics and not transmit the strep to others. We are frequently exposed to persons with strep and do not necessarily acquire it.
