2-3mo: While most broken bones tend to heal in 6 weeks, the tibia is more prone to delayed healing or not healing at all. Partially b/c the tibia is not as encompassed by muscle as other bones such as the femur (muscle tissue is very vascular and blood=healing). Anyhow, not unusual for tibia fractures to take upwards of 3 mo to heal.

Tibia Healing Time : Closed tibia fractures heal on average of 4.5 months. Open tibia fracturesor fractures that have an open wound heal on average of 5,5 months. Revoery time is longer then healing time of bone because of injury to the tissue around the tibia. Total recovery may take 12 to 18 months to reach a base line status.
