How to differentiate between an insufficient and a stenotic valve?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Exam or Cardiac Echo: Heart valves are occasionally leaky (insufficient) or narrowed (stenotic). Physical exam (auscultation) can lead to the diagnosis by the quality and timing of the heart sounds heard. A cardiac echo (echocardiography) is the common test done to get a picture of the defective valve.
