From minutes to days: Depends on the rate of bleeding and the affected organ. A ruptured aorta, liver or spleen could lead to death within a few minutes. Internal bleeding around the heart or inside the skull could also by fatal within minutes. The body has many mechanisms to try to control bleeding. Many times the bleeding stops altogether, other times bleeding could continue at lower rate for hours or days.
