A member asked:

Can my dental bridge cause infection in my brain?

No: A dental bridge is an artificial device supported by teeth to either stabilize mobile teeth, replace missing teeth or improve esthetics. The only way an infection is going to occur is if there is a problem with one or several of the supporting teeth. If a tooth infection especially in the upper jaw goes uncheck for awhile worse case scenario the infection can migrate to the brain.

No.: A dental bridge is an inert piece. Infected upper teeth with or without bridges can cause trouble.

no: The bridge itself cannot cause an infection, perhaps an allergic reaction. However, if the teeth underneath the bridge become infected and they are upper teeth and if allowed to progress for an extended period of time without treatment, then yes the infection can travel into your sinuses and perhaps your brain, but this is unlikely to occur.

Dental bridge: The bridge can't cause an infection, but a decayed or infected tooth could cause a large infection. If this problem is not addressed then you could get a serious infection that could possibly kill you. This doesn't happen often. Go to you dentist and get an evaluation.

Not the bridge: But in rare instances, dental infections can spread to other parts of your body, including your brain. Please seek treatment if you are infected.

It is possible: Spread of infection under the bridge to other areas of the body resulting in brain abscess or other complications. See your dentist for consultation and treatment.
