vague: So not sure where this question is coming from...However alignment in knee replacement has stayed fairly constant over time. Goal of the knee replacement is to provide a stable knee, a knee that recreates the anatomic joint line, and of course is technically straight so that the load is shared equally. Most of what has changed in this surgery deals with the prosthetic designs.

Holding steady: Alignment is one factor that can affect the long term function of tka. Traditional alignment tools work fine in experienced hands. Computer navigation and custom cutting tools made from ct or MRI modeling have not proven to be any better at this time than traditional means and increase the cost of care.
