Check for immunity: Hbsag (surface antigen) tests for active hepatitis. If it's negative, you don't have it and don't need retesting unless you get exposed. However, you should get a hbsab (surface antibody) to see if you're immune. If the antibody is negative, you should be vaccinated, and then you'll never need to worry about getting hepatitis b.
