what is a trace of mitral valve regurgitation?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Robert Binford
37 years experience Thoracic Surgery
Very small leak: The mitral valve prevents blood from flowing backwards out of the main pumping chamber of the heart (left ventricle). When a valve leaks we call this regugitation or insufficiency. One method of describing a leak is to classify it as trivial or trace, mild, moderate, or severe. A trace leak should not affect you heart in any way. A lot of people of this and never need anything done for it.
