Exactly that: There's little real science to suggest great ongoing harm from exposure, but many people eager to help vietnam veterans out of gratitude, especially those faced with catastrophic disease in themselves or their children (i.e., severe neural tube defects.) i think a close reading of the history will show primarily a wish to help these people, who gave so much.
