What happened to saccharine?

Toxicity: An experiment in rats showed that very high ingestion levels of saccharine caused bladder tumors. The doses were quite high and there is a question about whether the data transfers to humans. However other substitutes were developed and these have taken over the market so there is no economic reason to re-test saccharine.
