Sonogram: Although a pelvic exam at your doctor's office can give a good indication, a sonogram (ultrasound) is the best test for identifying fibroids. Treatment will depend on the extent of your symptoms and future fertility desires.

Ultimately, your physician can make the diagnosis with history, physical and an pelvic ultrasound. African american have a higher incidence of fibroids. There is a genetic predilection to fibroids too. Talk to your obgyn if you are suspicious.
