Minimal: Combining lead shielding with today's x-ray techniques means minimal risk. More exposure from background radiation. Panoramic film less exposure than full mouth series, allows view above and below teeth, allows evaluation of developing unerupted teeth, jaw joints, sinuses. It is an extremely valuable diagnostic tool with hardly any down-side risk.
