Depends: If referring to a child, then treatment can begin at any point depending on the outcome one is trying to achieve...For example, expanders can be placed at a relatively young age. Ortho involving jaw surgery may be deferred until the child is older. Typically, ortho is started after the 1st permanent molars come in. If referring to an adult...You can do at any time.

Orthodontia: There is not a set age. It really depends on the individual needs. The american association of orthodontists recommends that by age 7 all children have an orthodontic evaluation. Go to www.Braces.Org for more details. There are optimal times depending on certain situations which are to extensive to mention here.

See the ortho early: The only correct answer to this question is...It depends on the individual case... Hence it is best left to the orthodontist who eventually will be treating the patient. Personally i like to first see patients at around 4-5 years of age to make sure the permanent teeth are in proper position to assume their places in the mouth and see how the jaw widths and positions are developing.

Depends: Orthodontics is healthy at any age (if old enough), it is the health of the teeth and surrounding structures that determines that. Many people start at 8 or so for a first phase. So, if needed, as young as 7-8, or if done in 1 stage about 13 or so. Therefore, the best age to have braces is when it will do good. Only an exam will tell. Ada recommends all 7 year olds be screened. 80 is good too!

Depends on problems: The best age for orthodontics is very dependent upon the specific needs of each patient. Some children may benefit from some limited early care before all permanent teeth erupt. The majority begin treatment as adolescence begins, start of teen years, and the growth spurt begins. It's best to ask your orthodontic specialist what is best for your child.

Depends: Orthodontists like to see children for an initial examination by age 7, but that's just a guide. See an orthodontist the moment you see something out of the ordinary. Don't expect "self correction." depending on the problem, we can often guide growth and development to assure a healthier more esthetic result if allowed to intervene early. Don't wait until all the baby teeth fall out.
