Limitations exist: A baby can be taught to have comfort in the water at any age. Most are curious and can learn some basics. However, any kid under conversational age cannot be made aware of the dangers of a pool and the need for supervision. No kid can be drown proofed. The curious ones that are too comfortable around water fall in and drown when unsupervised.I don't encourage lessons <4yr.

Start..: ...As young as possible. It is good to learn to swim and to be comfortable in the water, and water is far more dangerous without this skill. However, don't be fooled. Your baby still needs to be closely supervised; a false sense of confidence that allows you to take your eyes off the baby near the water will result in drowning. Never take your eyes off your baby, but pay attention every moment.
