A member asked:

Can food poisoning cause an ear infection? i had (what i believe to be) food poisoning two days ago, and now have a clogged ear. the ear isn't blocked by wax and seems to be at ambient pressure.

No.: How do you know whether it's infected or not blocked with wax? The only was to determine that is to have a health care provider look in your ear.

Food poisoning....: Is not an infectious process, but rather is a general term that refers to toxin-mediated symptoms, such as nausea/emesis. Your "clogged ear" is likely not related, but rather may be a viral otitis. Of course irritation/inflammation of the eustachian tubes can produce these symptoms as well. Atopy also. You might try a decongestant for relief of symptoms, and if none, ask your dr to have a look.
