It can: Prostatitis is best treated with an antibiotic which penetrates well into this gland. They are trimethoprim/sulfa (septra/bactrim), quinolones(cipro/levoquin) and chloramphenicol. If the infecting organism is susceptible to t/s or a quinolone these would be the best choice. If for example the infecting organism is an enterococcus, resistant to those antibiotics, Amoxicillin would be the choice.
