Ana test results question - how many people have ana positive but don't ever get lupus?

ANA is not Lupus: The antinuclear antibody (ANA) is a blood test. We all have an ana, but most of us have this below the level we see in people with lupus and other conditions. Blood bank studies suggest that ~ 5% + or - of healthy people have a + ana. Can you have a + ANA and never get lupus? - yes. Some will progress to lupus but there are many other causes of a + ANA which need to be considered.

Age and gender: Positive ANA test is commoner in older people and women. Up to 25% of the people may have positive ANA test at some time or the other. Only 0.1-0.15% of the population has systemic lupus.
