Nontoxic @ 8,000mg/d: Oral ld50 level for turmeric could not be determined, as 2.5g/kg fed to various lab animals, including monkeys ; 3g/kg fed to rats was tolerated. At 100 mg/kg it is ulcerogenic in rats. Some studies have found a higher sensitivity in mice, resulting in hepatotoxicity. Human studies suggest that curcumin is nontoxic to humans up to 8, 000 mg/day, when taken for three months.

Contaminants: There really are no side effects. The problem is the source of your turmeric. Suggest you get pharmaceutical grade. Many health food stores and general public stores can have contamination with heavy metals and toxic chemicals!
