Yes: If your mother was an alcoholic you are 50% more likely to become an alcoholic ; or marry an alcoholic. Sons of alcoholic fathers have similar chances of developing the disease. It is assumed that some of this is due to hereditary issues ; some is learned behavior. It is better to avoid alcohol as much as possible if the disease runs in the family.
