A member asked:

What does spherical equivalent in eyesight mean? does 0.5x-1.0 see the same as 1.0x-2.0? they both have se of plano. who would see better near/far?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Refractive errors: Yes, the spherical equivalence (net average power) is identical, but the affect on focus is different. The former prescription is less strong, and this person would be able to see better farther away without glasses than the latter prescription. The opposite may be true for near vision depending on the persons age( >40), and type of astigmatism (against the rule vs with the rule).
