A member asked:

Why do old people get bigger liver spots and young people just have freckles?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Large liver spots: On areas of the skin that have years of frequent and prolonged sun exposure, age spots appear when melanin becomes "clumped" or is produced in particularly high concentrations. In addition to sun exposure, simply becoming older can cause the extra production of melanin. Thus, the aging process and repeated sun exposure over the years increases the size of the liver spot.
