Does plaque shrink teeth when it erodes the enamel, will teeth become smaller because of plaque? can your teeth wear away without the telltale signs of cavities and discolouration?

Many questions: Plaque contains bacterial colonies that generate acids which etch the enamel leading to decay. Teeth can wear from grinding or acid erosion or some of the deficient enamel maladies.

Yes and no: Plaque does not cause teeth to shrink. Some types of plaque produce acid in the presence of fermentable carbohydrates. If plaque is not removed in this case the acids will leach mineral out of the enamel and the enamel will become porous and eventually cavities form. Acid erosion from too many sodas, stomach acid, etc. Will cause teeth to erode. In this case they can wear away without the signs.

Yes: Tooth erosion is caused by attrition, abrasion, abfraction and corrosion. Plaque could also cause erosion of teeth. The bacteria in plaque changes food starches into acids. When this happens, the acids in plaque start to eat away at the healthy minerals in the tooth enamel. This causes the enamel to wear down and become pitted.

Not really: Plaque can erode/decay your teeth only. But many people wear their teeth away from brushing too hard( hard tooth brush, large scrubbing motions etc..).
