I did 30 minutes of cardio and now have pain radiating in my upper back on the right side. i don't regularly exercise. is this normal? i'm 30.

No, not normal: "cardio" is a very non-specific term for exercise that gets your heart rate elevated for therapeutic benefit. Not knowing what specific exercise you were doing is somewhat limiting. None the less the pain you describe does not sound like a normal consequence of exercise. It may be something as simple as a strained muscle but if persist recommend seeing your doctor.

Not necessarily: It's hard to say as depending on the type of cardiovascular exercise you were doing, it's entirely possible that you suffered an injury to one of the muscle in the upper back area(of which there are many) or even irritated one of the nerve roots in that area. If you are having respiratory symptoms or lightheadedness or this pain persists, I would seek input from your primary care doctor.
