How does schiznophrenia happen to someone? is it a chemical imbalance in the head or something else?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Heredity/environment: Schizophrenia has environmental ; genetic causes. Prenatal insults such as maternal infections or being born during winter months can increase the risk of a person being diagnosed. Schizophrenia is thought to be caused by abnormal connections in the brain. Increased Dopamine in mesolimbic regions may cause hallucinations. Abnormal glutamate ; serotonin levels may also be involved.
