A 20-year-old female asked:
if you are on your second child and you asked to be induced before your due date will the doctor let you?

Maybe, but...: Practice varies doctor to doctor, but in my opinion, an induction prior to 41 weeks, without any medical indication simply raises you and your baby's risks for complications and the chance of an c-section delivery. Talk to your doctor about your concerns, but it is unusually best to let things happen naturally.

Depends on situation: I believe at my hospital induction before 39 weeks without a valid medical reason can result in disciplinary action. Complications of early birth that send baby to a special care nursery increase as the gestation decreases. I believe the american college of ob/gyn promotes this guideline.
