First menses: It is difficult to know when the first menstrual period will happen after a miscarriage, and sometimes that first menses can be heavy and painful. Increasing pain not relieved by pain medications, and increasing bleeding -- particularly if there is lightheadedness or dizziness -- should be evaluated by the doctor following a miscarriage.
