Formication: Formication is the medical term for the sensation that resembles insects crawling on or under the skin. Possible causes include onset of menopause or medication adverse effect (ritalin, adderall, lunesta, (eszopiclone) or others). Intoxication with illicit drugs (cocaine or amphetamines) or drug/alcohol withdrawal may give rise to this sensation as well. There are other less common causes as well.
