A member asked:

Why are ovaries the most common site of endometriosis?

They aren't: The most common site for endometriosis is the peritoneum, which is the lining of the pelvis. The most common areas the those behind the uterus and behind the ovaries. Gravity would cause and endometriosis in the pelvis to go to the lowest point, which is where we find it.

Not certain: All standard authoritative textbooks in gynecologic surgery, including a comprehensive review in fertility & sterility in 2006, agree the ovaries, cul-de-sac, and pelvic peritoneum are the most common sites in that order. Although reasons aren't certain, if retrograde menstrual flow is a major cause of developing endometriosis this makes sense anatomically.
