Lots...: Let them sleep as long as they want. Newborns need a lot of sleep.

Depends: If you want them to get their longest sleep period at night when you are trying for restorative sleep, don't let them sleep more than 2-2.5 hours during the day without at least waking them for 5 min before letting them go back down. Babies are only capable of one truly deep sleep period /24h and if they sleep 3-4 continuous hours during the day, they will be up every hour or so at night.
