Ice.: One should use an ice pack immediately following oral surgery. In addition, antiinflammatory medication (eg, Ibuprofen or naproxen) can provide relief. After the 1st 24 hours, the safest medication would be acetaminophen. If inadequate pain relief, one can add hydrocodone. As with any pain, if it is not improving, return to your treating doctor.
