Why is it so common for women to get diarrhea around the time of their period? its obviously hormone related, so which hormone is causing it?

Menses diarrhea: If you suffer from diarrhea during menstrual periods, it is likely due to dysmenorrhea due to an increase in prostaglandins which are hormone-like compounds produced due to cells which are formed in the lining of the uterus during menstruation. Excess prostaglandins stimulate bowel function resulting in diarrhea.
