A member asked:

What kinds of memories are forgotten when someone suffers from dissociative amnesia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Traumatic ones: Dissociation is usually a symptom of extreme trauma. It is a way the mind prevents being overwhelmed by traumatic experiences. It also occurs with some drugs and alcohol. In the latter case memories are lost for the intoxicated state.
