Post nasal drip: You child may have a postnasal drip which can be controlled with salt water nose drop, and a vaporizer. Also raise the child's mattress so he is sleeping on an angle. Second hand smoke from your cigarettes may be contributing to the post nasal drip.

Cough evaluation : For a cough not associated with cold symptoms other causes include aspiration. Slower feeds at an angle may help. Thickened feeds with rice cereal may also be advised by your pediatrician.
