Trauma, arthritis: Either inflammatory or infectious, recent or prior injury, cartilage or ligament injury, bone conditions, new or old fracture, synovitis is a nonspecific term for inflammation of the tissue that line the wrist, the synovium. Thus there are many many causes. History, exam, xrays, and at times more advanced imaging and lab tests are all relevant in making a diagnosis.

More common: Than not, if you do not have rheumatoid arthritis, it is a functional issues. Something you are doing repetitively, is irritating your wrist and causing this synovitis. Look at your daily routine, workout routine, desk set up at work, and see what you are doing that may be putting unusual stress on your wrist. Hope this helps!
