varies: There are many potetnial causes. When 'trying to poop' as you put it, you are increasing your pressure in the spinal canal and this can aggravate many spinal conditions. Just as, for example, a person with a disc herniation may have more pain when they cough or strain. The other possibilitis may include a non musculoskeletal cause, such as if you have something wrong with your lower GI tract.
