Depends: There are many types of hernias, and each type is variable in terms of its severity. Some patients and some doctors group all hernias in to a category of a "simple" problem requiring "minor" surgery. Hernia repairs vary in complexity from 30 minute outpatient procedures to 8 hour complex abdominal wall reconstructions. Recovery therefore depends on what type and how severe.
