Zyprexa (olanzapine): An atypical antipsychotic approved by fda for tx of schizophrenia & bipolar disorders. It is structurally similar to Clozapine but classified as thienobenzodiazepine. It is manufactured by eli lilly co. May cause involuntary movements, akathisia, fatigue, red eyes, dry mouth, anhedonia, dizziness, weight gain, seizures, metabolic changes such as diabetes.

Symptoms: The symptoms for which it was prescribed may come back. It is always better to consult your prescribing dr before stopping any meds on your own. No, "de novo", schizophrenia proper can not be primarily caused by an antipsychotic; but again psychotic symptoms (or other) may re appear if they were present before starting this drug.

i have bipolar disorder type 2 will it worsen or effect me if i smoke marijuana? i'm a 18 year old male and i take lithium 900ml and zyprexa 5ml for my medication and i was wondering, if i smoke medical marijuana, would it do a bad effect on me or will it

I : I would be very concerned about using marijuana if you have bipolar ii disorder.  One of the main reasons for bipolar patients not getting well is abuse of alcohol or illicit drugs.   Contrary to popular opinion, marijuana can be very mood altering- especially if you already have a serious psychiatric illness. Even a person without  bipolar ii disorder, could develop hallucinations, paranoia, delusions, ilusions, psychosis, out of body experiences and a wide variety of other very unpleasant effects.  Medical marijuana is only prescribed for specific conditions in most states. Medical marijuana is only legal in 15 states plus the district of columbia right now. Bipolar Treatment: The research clearly shows that people suffering from bipolar disorder have the best outcomes with a combination of medication and psychotherapy.  Psychotherapy should occur for an hour at least 1 or 2 times a month and sometimes more often during the course of treatment.  Such treatment by good doctors can result in excellent outcomes.  Smoking weed or hash is not associated with good outcomes.

i take zyprexa and pristiq (desvenlafaxine) for ocd.  the medications cause weight gain and severe sleepiness.  if i sleep 10.5 hours, could this harm me long term?

Sedation: You don't share your zyprexa (olanzapine) dose, but you do mention "severe sleepiness."  yes, weight gain and inactivity can harm you long-term as obesity and diabetes are more likely to develop -- along with other conditions (cardiovascular disease, etc) that can accompany them.  Please tell your psychiatrist about these side effects -- doses may be adjusted accordingly.

Yes you should: Good to recognize weight gain from Zyprexa (olanzapine) at 5 kilos. Yes, when you stop taking Zyprexa (olanzapine) weight gain should slowly reverse. However, discuss with prescribing doctor alternative med that is less likely to cause weight gain. Best way to lose the weight is exercise daily and eat healthy. Cut out junk food, sugary drinks/sodas and you'll feel better. Good luck and take care.

No it is toxic: Some drugs have narrow therapeutic window means we have to worry about toxicity like lithium and other have se like  tegretol and Imipramine  we have to know these are great meds but if pts overdose the chances of death are high. 
Meds are like water fire and knife in good hands they are miracle in bad hands they are death.
