Good start: Statins have helps lower cholesterol and may be beneficial overall.  There are risks with any medication.  Exercise helps the body and mind in many ways.  Xanthelomas are deposits of fat and cholesterol so the better you manage it the smaller the xanthelomas will become.  I think your doctor cares about you and will help you help yourself.

Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. 
Get HPV vaccine, if you are under 27 years of age.
