i have a gauze pad stuck in an unstitched wound on my wrist that i had on 3 days. i've removed all gauz except wounded area. no signs of infection but gauz still remains. i've soaked 3 times but no budge. it's been 1 day now. skin isa flap over wrist?

: You may leave it alone. It will fall off when the underlying wound heals. You may apply an emollient like Vaseline to the affected area, over the gauze.

Usually 2 to 3 days: It may take 2 to 3 days before one sees signs and symptoms of an infection.

Soon: Most wound infections after surgery are seen within a week of the operation. It is less common, but late wound infections could occur if there is retained wound fluid, seroma, or hematoma. Lastly and rarely, late inflammation or suture site infections can be seen if permanent internal sutures were to get infected.

Cat Bite: I hoped that you washed it with copious amounts of water.
The signs can be redness, pus coming from the wound, swelling, inflammation, streaks of redness, fever, pain, etc.

Yes: The signs of wound infection are redness, tenderness, swelling and fever.  Purulent drainage almost always indicates a wound infection.

male 24. for 2 days i have some pain on left side under tongue and part of left side under tongue a bit swollen compared to the right. no visible sign of wound . before onset i had yawned intensely and i had a cramp under tongue.can it be related?

4am temp 99.2, 11h post-op on iv antibiotics, intermittent shooting pain at 1 of 4 wounds while on toradol.  signs of infection? will i be okay?

Okay: I would like a little more history on the wounds however, at 11 hr PO and on IV antibiotics with a pain killer you will be fine. Po pain and a slightly elevated temp are normal and you need to stay ahead of the pain so take all meds as perscribed.

what is a likely sign that i have a retinal tear?

Flashes and floaters: The warning signs for a retinal tear are flashes of light (like a streak of lightening) and a sudden increase in floaters.  This needs to be checked as tears are, relatively, easily treated, retinal detachments are much more involved.  Untreated tears can become detachments.

is itching a sign that my sugical wound is healing?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Itching is a very common part of wound healing.  As long as there is no or minimal redness or drainage from the wound there is nothing to worry about.  If it is very bothersome i would recommend an over the counter antihistamine like benadryl (diphenhydramine).

are there signs to tell the age of a surgical wound?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Wound healing has been very well studied in the first 7-10 days the wound usually heals but the scar matures and fades and softens for up to a year after that they remain stable.
