Avulsion fracture: Tibial spine fractures are characterized by fractures at the insertion site of the anterior cruciate ligament (acl) on the tibia and were first classified into 3 types. For displaced (type ii/iii) fractures, surgical treatment has included fixation with screws, sutures, or wires performed through either open or arthroscopic approaches. Optimal treatment methods remain controversial.

Accepted Answer

: No. Having it covered does not slow down healing, but, I prefer to keep it covered to protect the area during the day when you are active and keep it open at night to allow the nail bed to dry out.  As for the answer to the question,  keeping a wound covered actually speeds up healing because air will dry out the surface tissue and trap fluid underneath that can cause bacteria to proliferate.

Take longer: It take 4-6 weeks for a wound to heal . If you are concern check with your surgeon specially if you did have any hard ware like plater and writes and screws to make sure you are rejecting any

how to treat nail avulsion?

Accepted Answer

Depends: It really depends on how the nail was avulsed and whether the entire nail was avulsed.  If this was a crush injury and there is a laceration to the nailbed, then that should be surgically repaired.  Also, if not treated properly, the eponychial fold (proximal nail fold) can scar to the sterile matrix preventing nail re-growth.  These are typically simple injuries best treated by a hand surgeion.

is there a cure for nail avulsion?

Accepted Answer

Time: An avulsed nail comes off at the root.  If the root is not disturbed by crushing or direct injury, the nail will regrow.  There is no way to speed this up although a well balanced diet is helpful.  The regrowth speed depends upon the nail involved - hands are faster than feet for instance.

No: Avulsion fractures are when a section of bone is torn away from the main body of bone and still connected to the tendon.

signs of an infection after toenail avulsion?

Accepted Answer

Many: Not typical to have infection but signs would be extreme reddness, a yellow discharge or even green.  Swelling around the edge of the nail bed with redness or streaking up the toe or foot would be signs.  Hot to touch would be indicative of infection too.  If in doubt, see your pcp or surgeon.  May need an antibiotic.  May be doing fine and you just need some reassurance.  Nail it down!
