Accepted Answer

Only: If you are allergic to it but you would have a rash or other symptom. It is more likely that you have a high fever from whatever you are on the Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for!

finished a 7 day course of bactrim for a p. mirabilis uti. still having low fever (99.6-100.1) and urinary discomfort. kidneys are fine. i'm high risk for c. diff so don't want to take cipro (or amox) if possible. anything else to try/more bactrim?

: Proteus mirabilis is usually quite sensitive to Bactrim and 7 day course is long enough unless you have bladder stone. Recurrent bladder infection with Proteus species may be coexistent with bladder stone.
Antibiotic of choice should be based on the urine culture result, was Proteus sensitive to Bactrim? Cipro may precipitate C. diff colitis but much less with cephalosporins.

cellulitis, high fever, hr and bp. went to er. hospitalized, vancomycin, i&d, go home w/bactrim. could this case have been handled in a cheaper way?

Not really: Only possibility would have been earlier detection either by you or by doc-- then oral antibiotics plus or minus i and d could have prevented hospitalization and need for IV antibiotics.

frequent urination and mild burning  3 wks after hysterectomy, high wbcs no nitrites, 3 rounds abx (cipro, then bactrim, then macrobid), cultures show trace blood no bacteria, tried 1 dose diflucan, still feel constant urge to pee. please help!

Urology evaluation: Since your urine culture is negative this indicates there is not an infection thus taking antibiotics is not going to be useful.  Consider seeing a Urologist. They should confirm there was no bladder injury during the surgery that might be causing the symptoms

Certainly std: rarely they can be resistant (really rare).
and if a UTI is treated and fixed, the germs are gone but the irritation isn't going away immediately.

i had a uti last month have taken cipro (ciprofloxacin) & bactrim. i still have urethra pressure that feels like spasms after voiding. no bladder pain. causes?

It could trigonitis: The  bladder  trigone is at the lower end of the bladder. It could be irritated with the bladder  infection. You can ask your physician to have  you see a urologist

can i take cipro and bactrim together?

: They would be safe together. However, it is unusual to need both of them at the same time. If you are treating yourself, just don't:  see your doctor. If prescribed by two different heatlh care providers, discuss with at least one of them. If both from the same doctor, make sure s/he realizes you have been advised to take both antibiotics. Accepted Answer

Not likely: Just because you have an allergy to Bactrim doesn't put you at increased risk for developing an allergy to cipro (ciprofloxacin). There are lots of options for antibiotics that don't cross-react with sulfa drugs so you should be fine. If you want to understand your drug allergy in more detail see a board certified Allergist for further workup and evaluation.

Usually work: Usually Cipro (ciprofloxacin) works better but with any uti, i send it to the lab to see what bacteria is causing it and which antibiotic it is sensitive to.
