Not likely to help: You may want to consider a medical assisted detox program. Don't try to detox from heroin on your own.

Not a good idea!: never is a good idea to "cold turkey" stop a medication, especially on your own w/o your Doctors guidance. The "withdrawal symptoms" days will depend on how long you have taking it, the longer the more days you will need. The concerning part is that the problem you started taking the medication for , like depression, could crash you and some people have become suicidal. Call your physician ASAP!

Try diet change: No sugar, no milk or milk products. If it works it is cheap!

That's too much. : I wouldn't think it prudent to pummel yourself to sleep with all of that.  If anything, maybe just 25mg of Benadryl nightly. Although it would be better in the long run if you didn't take anything - would be a lousy few days but in the end your sleep would be more natural and spontaneous.

i took ativan (lorazepam) for 2 weeks. 0.5-1mg a day. stopped taking it 4 days ago. headache, dizziness, blurred vision, can't sleep. possible withdrawal?

Possible withdrawal: It is very likely that your symptoms correspond to a withdrawal from Benzodiazepines. Ativan (lorazepam) can be easily tapered down by 0.25 mg daily. If you experience further symptoms, increase it to 0.5 for another day or two. People usually have to try different doses, in order to find a comfort zone.

Unlikely: unlike benzodiazepines the tricyclics like Trazadone do not have the same mechanism of action an do not have withdraw effects

Talk to your doctor: Talk to a pain or addiction specialist for specific recommendations. This is a really tough problem, and someone very knowledgeable will need to take a full history and examine you to make rational suggestions. There is no one solution, so you will need to be patient, do not go back to taking more opioids. There are medication and behavioral strategies that can help.

Getting Clean: Yes. Every day you stay clean the more your chance of getting back to a normal life with normal feelings and normal body processes will happen.

I hope you are doing this with a fellowship of some kind, staying clean will be easier if you have some sense of being part of a group.  It is easier when you are accountable to others.

i have taken 2.5 mg of xanax (alprazolam) nightly for several years for sleep.  i wish to stop using .  will withdrawal be difficult ?

Yes: Can be very difficult. Do NOT stop suddenly ,Suggest you see a psychiatrist MD knowlegable in addiction medicine, who can help you taper off. People in your age group frequently develop memory or other cognitive problems during the daytime that they may not even be aware of. They notice that their thinking becomes much clearer off the drug. Hope this is helpful for you.
