Tips for pain relief: Any tooth extraction can be uncomfortable.  The key is good home care.  As soon as possible place an ice pack on your face...Even if you have to store your own ice bag in a cooler in the car.  Keep ice on your face 20min on then 20 min off for the first 24 hours.  Take pain meds as prescribed and limit activity.  Dont suck through a straw, spit alot, slurp soup or smoke.  Eat soft foods for 24 hrs.

Not really: Because your mouth is a wet place, scabs do not form like on your skin. Instead a blood clot forms in the area where the tooth was and over time tissue fills in from underneath to heal the extraction site. If you have sutures put in to close up the extraction site, you may never even see this blood clot at all.

Medication : It is highly possible that whoever took your tooth out placed some medication in the socket to try and prevent a dry socket.  Different medications are used and some have a bad or metallic taste.  You should check with your surgeon and ask them if anything was placed in the socket.  If nothing was placed have them check the socket for proper healing as debris may have collected causing the taste.

A few thoughts..: There may be a residual root, a sharp edge of bone, a small infection, or it may be due to something completely unrelated. It is for that reason that you need to be evaluated by your oral surgeon to see if it is related to the extraction or not.

If the sinus was not involved during surgery, the sinus pain should subside.
