: Your sense of taste will return. If you must use mouthwash, use one without alcohol in it. Alcohol tends to dry out the mucus membrane may dull sensation for a while.

Mouthwash: Yes there are many herbal and supplement mouthwash available. Many include natural ingredients like peppermint and spearmint, some contain antioxidants as well.

Lots: I have no financial interest in these companies, but crest pro health is a line of non-alcohol based rinses.  Listerine will also have one, but you need to read because there are many with alchohol.

Accepted Answer

Either: Both types of mouthwash are going to have agents in them that will kill bacteria that tend to cause bad breath.  If you are aware of halitosis, be sure to brush your tongue well, especially toward the back.  This is a common source for bad breath.  Also be sure to get your teeth cleaned at the dentist if it has been a while.  Mouthwash helps, but often just covers up the real problem.

Yes: A fluoridated rinse is always preferred for its anti cavity and  slightly antibacterial effects. Crest pro health and listerine zero are alcohol free so they are less drying to your oral tissues.

Dentist: Start with your dentist first for an exam as I suspect there might be some inflammation/ irritation at baseline that gets worse with the use of mouthwash. Once gum conditions are ruled out, a variety of options, including non alcohol based mouth rinses, can be tried.

Probably : Sperm can live a few days in the proper environment, but between swallowing, rinsing (with or without mouthwash) and spitting, one would not expect any to remain in the mouth very long, or survive, for that matter.

i'm currently using a prescription mouthwash due to dry socket. my tongue itches and taste buds are inflamed. could it be an allergic reaction?

Better Safe/Sorry: If you think it may be an allergic reaction, simply do not use it again. It is not worth trying again to find out. You can substitute warm salt water in its place. Be sure to mention this to the dentist who prescribed it for future reference.

Depends: Alcohol based mouthwash is not bad. However, it would be bad for an alcoholic or a child to use, in case of ingestion.

i have lychin planus in my mouth, i've had it for the last 12 months i'm on steroid mouth wash but it won't go, can this affect my taste buds?

Accepted Answer

Yes : Sometimes a course of oral steroids can be helpful and sometimes actually injecting steroid into the area can be helpful. Have you seen an ENT doctor yet? If not, it would be useful to make an appointment for an evaluation.
