CT of the liver: Can show tumors, cirrhosis, bile duct problems, and overall size. Hepatitis (liver inflammation) can sometimes be suggested by the presence of fluid (edema) around the portal vessels but blood liver function tests are the standard by which liver inflammation is diagnosed.

sonogram shows 2.2cm, (2) 1cm in neck lymph's. ct contrast scan doesn't identify lymph's. i'm told its inflammation. ct does not pick up inflammation?

Accepted Answer

CT can: identify soft tissue inflammation, and can identify lymph nodes.  Hard to speculate as to why the CT scan didn't show the lymph nodes, but I suspect if they looked normal the radiologist decided not to mention them.  The only way to be certain is to have the radiologist look at the CT and ultrasound side by side and reconcile the discrepancy.

does ibs cause inflammation of your colon? would it show if you had a ct scan

IBS: Ibs is not due to inflammation and would not show up on a biopsy or ct scan. One theory is that it is due to hypersensitive nerves that control colon contraction.

ct shows mild circumferential thickening of urinary bladder wall(8mm), no inflammation. report states it may be chronic cystitis. what does it mean?

Chronic inflamation: Cystitis is by definition an inflammation/infection of the bladder. Chronic cystitis is just what it says, a long term inflammation which has resulted over a long term in thickening of the bladder wall.

pap/ hpv reflex to hpv16/18 with ct/cg show endocervical , glandular or metaplastic cells/ or parabasal cells present. is this simply inflammation?

Not clear: I'm not clear on your question.  If your pap smear identified hpv types 16 and 18, then you are infected with these "high risk" subtypes of human papilloma virus.  This poses a risk for cervical cancer; it doesn't mean you have cancer, but you should be evaluated and treated to prevent progression to cancer.  Have you been vaccinated against hpv? It seems as if you should be.  See your ob/gyn.

was given surfactant as an infant due to extreme prematurity, now recent lung ct shows inflammation, minimal bilateral scar and unspecific aveolar density. i also had covid recently. could this be due to the surfactant or covid and can it be reversed?

: Surfactant is a product that mimics a natural one made in the lungs as it matures. I doubt it has anything to do with your issues 30 years later. What is common for those infants that needed surfactant to survive is residual lung scarring and sensitivity to respiratory illness for their lifetime. Early covid strains attacked deep lung tissues as their major target. Some injury improves/some remain

See rheumatologist: You appear to have an autoimmune and/or immune deficiency problem. I note that you are already on Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) (SLE?). If you are already under the care of a rheumatologist, consider getting an immune evaluation as well because of the low IgG (how low?).  If the problem progresses, you need to go to an university center for further workup.

Physicians: Do not consider imaging findings embarrassing or non-embarrassing. This is not part of our medical focus and the words have no meaning in medicine. What is important is whether the findings are (or are not) important in the management of a patient's symptoms.

does an adominal pelvic ct show lungs?

Accepted Answer

A bit: The ct will include the lung bases because it is necessary to do so to cover the top of the liver and spleen. However, not much of the lower lobes is covered.
