how long does it take for nitrofurantoin to work on treating uti? i've been taking the pills for three days, but haven't seen too much of a change yet. doctor says to take for a week?

: UTI symptoms usually start to improve within 1-2 days. If you still have urinary frequency, urgency or painful urination in another day or two, contact your doctor again. You may need a different antibiotic, or confirmation that your symptoms are caused by UTI and not something else. Good luck.

Could incontinence: I don't think it's easy to say that you don't have IC. The symptoms you are describing could either be IC, it could be urge incontinence, it could be a prolapse of the bladder or other pelvic floor dysfunction. You could have issues with bowels pressing on the bladder. What medicine have you tried besides antibiotics? I would recommend bladder training and possibly botox.

Chronic UTI's: Continue to see Dr. as there may be other underlying causes for the chronicity such as possible small stones in your Urinary tract etc.  continue the work up to get to the answers.  Best wishes.

over a year i been having bad smelling urine and its cloudy, seen dr 6 months ago they said uti & gave antibiotics  when gone it came right back. help?

You need more testin: It is most likely the UTI came right back.  Amoxicillin is not always the best UTI antibiotic.  You need to have another urine analysis and culture.  If this does not reveal any problems you will need more testing.

Yes, soon: If it is thrush it will only get worse if left untreated.  You might try calling your doctor's office, describe the problem and ask if they could call in something for this. If not, you should make an appointment.

Recent intercourse?: They might be using a description for sperm cells which might be seen if you two had intercourse recently.  I suppose it could also indicate an infection, such as trichomonas.

my father had uti or prostatitis 4 months ago and catheterized up until 2 mnths ago. now his urine is clear sometimes and completely turbid in few hours. on routine, 14-16epithelial cells  2-4pus cells seen. is this worrying? he is cmplty asymptmatc?

Normal urine: It sounds like his urinalysis is normal. With that plus no symptoms, all is well. Cloudy urine is not usually a sign of infection. It results mostly from microscopic mineral (phosphate) crystals and depends on diet and fluid intake. (You can test this easily:  add a bit of acid like vinegar or lemon juice to a cloudy sample and watch it immediately clear up.) If in doubt, check with his doctor.
