i am on loestrin only for an ovarian endometrioma, is there a chance it can shrink if it did not with other coc's? it shrunk thru out my pregnancy but immediately began growing after delivery

Accepted Answer

Not likely: to shrink much with oral contraceptives, due to estrogen content. Contraceptives with no estrogen, would be slightly more likely to cause shrinkage. Gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist/antagonist agents are more effective.

does endometrioma cyst(chocolate cyst) in the ovary, expands during menses and later shrinks. and this cycle continues?

Typically not cyclic: Endometriomas are areas of endometriosis found on the surface of the ovary. They are slow growing and result from entrapped blood within the cyst. The chocolate color is from the breakdown of blood products. The amount of blood they produce with each menses is minimal and thus they are slow growing. If they disappear or shrink it is most likely due to cyst rupture.

i have a cyst that was 4cm a year and a half ago. it grew to 10cm and then shrunk to 8.4 in 2 months. ob gyn gave two choices. watch and wait or laparoscopic cystectomy. what should i do? cyst is complex hypoechoic (possible endometrioma)

Won&#x27;t go away on own: Only you can make the decision; however, something to think about is this:  If it has persisted for 1.5 years, its unlikely to go away on its own.   The difference in size in 2 months from 10cm to 8.4cm may just be the way the ultrasound measurements were taken.  It may not be shrinking.   I would recommend removing an  8+ cm cyst that is persistent after observation. Best wishes!

It isn't : An endometrioma should not be treated during pregnancy. It should be dealt with after delivery.

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: Endometriosis will not exacerbate during pregnancy, after delivery if untreated may progress even further. So basically the pregnancy may delay the progression of disease.

Size and color: Endometriomas produce very dark brown to burgundy blood and tend to be much larger than hemorrhagic ovarian cysts.

i m taking inj. medroxyprogesteron 4 my endometrioma abt 1yr. is it make me infertile if i took it 1more yr?

No!: You will resume your ovulation and menstrual cycles within 3 to 4 months after stopping!  bone loss may be your only concern.

Doesn't sound right: If you have an endometrioma (based on an ultrasound), then it really is best treated surgically.     Your doctor may be reluctant to operate on you a 3rd time because there may not be much he can do.     In the absence of an endometrioma, you may want to consider a medication (lupron), that temporarily puts you into menopause, thus starving endometriosis.   If you have endo, then symptoms improve.

i had an mri recently and have an endometrioma in my ovary. is surgery a good option to consider and what are the effects of not having surgery.

Medical: (Hormonal) therapy may be a viable alternative to surgery! Discvuss with your GYN!

See below: Hemorrhagic cysts are functional cysts, ie result from ovulation cysts that become hemorrhagic, whereas endometriomas as new growths which are typically benign.
