i have took doxycycline so treat a uti and felt unwel all week i have just found out from my docter that i am allergic to doxycycline i ive finished the course now will i start to feel better soon now the course is finished?

: Most common side effects of Doxycycline are GI symptoms such as nausea/vomit/poor appetite so I wonder what your symptoms are because side effects are different from allergic reactions such as rashes and itching, angioedema, with anaphylactic reaction is the most severe form. Either side effects or allergic reaction, symptoms usually resolve after stopping the offending agent.

i have a uti and got cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin to treat it. i'm also taking doxycycline as antimalarial. should i stop taking doxycycline while taking cipro (ciprofloxacin)?

Take both: Continue both drugs, unless your doctors have different advice.

Not OK: First, your UTI should be professionally confirmed, ideally in person or at least speaking with your doctor if your symptoms are typical and you did a home self test to confirm positive WBC and nitrite in your urine. Second, doxycycline is not a recommended drug for UTI. And since you took the drug fairly recently, there is a good chance the bacteria causing your UTI is resistant to it.

1-2 days, but...: Did a doctor prescribe doxycycline, or are you treating yourself, perhaps with antibiotic left over from another infection? Doxy is not used very often for UTI; it usually would work, but other drugs are more commonly used, such as levofloxacin (Levaquin), sulfa-trimethoprim (Bactrim), or nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin). With effective Rx, urinary pain should start to improve in 1-2 days.

: If you have a UTI with an organism that is sensitive to doxycycline, then it should help. If the bacteria is resistant to doxycycline, then it will not help. Be sure the doxycycline is not expired before taking it since it will likely be ineffective if expired. Your question: Usually doxycycline will have a better spectrum against bowel organisms but clindamycin may be necessary against some bacteria that are only sensitive to clindamycin.

Could be yes or no: Headaches are multifactorial. Could be dehydration so drink plenty of fluids. Could be the doxy. Could be many other reasons. Never knew doxy to be a great treatment for most garden-variety utis, however.
