i wanted to know i took benadryl (diphenhydramine) because my allergies are acting up and i'm stuffed up, i have a cough, i'm weeding because my asthma as well. is it o?

Probably not: I presume you are asking whether it is ok to do some weeding when your nose is stuffed up and your asthma is not controlled. In general , the answer would be no since you are likely allergic to weed pollen and molds from the disturbed soil.  It is also important for you to call your doctor about your asthma. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or any other antihistamine has no decongesting action, nasal steroid does.

Trigger ???: This is likely an interplay between your asthma, which is a constant but hopefully controlled,an an external trigger. Some exposure or infectious process is likely the "trigger".Sorting that out may require you keep track of when, what, where all this started and what additional symptoms you have had  during the process.Take the list to you doc and see if additional treatment/s are needed.

Not appropriate : Asthma coughs do not respond to cough surup. You need asthma medicine like albuterol . It is really important to keep asthma under control to protect lungs later on.

Depends: Antihistamines tend to dry secretions permitting them to thicken &amp; become harder to bring up naturally or with a cough. Some do this more than others. Many of the newer 1/day antihistamines seem less likely to do so. This is something you can try for a while &amp; see how it works for you. I find it a benefit for many with this condition.

have pneumonia asthma bronchitis on prednisone 40mgx5 levoflaxcin500x7 is ok to take benedryl, cough supp and expectorant to manage severe coughing?

Probably OK but..: If your cough is caused by uncontrolled asthma, then you need to get the asthma under control instead of relying on cough medicine to relieve the symptoms. On the other hand, if your lung function is reasonably good and the cough is too bothersome, i see no harm in taking a cough suppressant for a few days.  I would suggest that you talk to your doctor about these issues.

ive been coughing for approx. 2.5months, it started after a cold( influenza(-),  clear chest x-ray). ive been taking antihistamines and it helps a little. but the cough doesnt go away and i suspect it could ben cough variant asthma.how can i know?

Pulmonology: Please see a pulmonary specialist for pulmonary function testing. Your chronic cough should also be evaluated with a chest radiograph to determine if there is chronic lung disease. Avoid smoke, dust, animal dander, pollen and other environmental triggers. 
Continue your antihistamine until seen by your PCP and Pulmonologist.

Depends: If your asthma triggers include allergies, an antihistamine like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can be helpful. However, Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can make you sleepy. I would recommend a non-sedating antihistamine like Claritin or allergra.

Possibly : Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistmaine. If your asthma trigger is allergic, then it would be helpful. However side effects-sleepiness, dry nasal passages, etc. Are very comon. Claritin which has less side effects would be a better choice. Remember that a drug like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can "thicken" lung secretions and make them harder to cough up. Check with your physician before anything.

Depends on situation: Antihistamines have a drying effect & can cause a thickening of the respiratory mucous that is already a problem for some asthmatics. When asthma is well controlled & the occasional allergic issue arises, i see no problem using benedryl. I don't recommend it to those that are symptomatic with their asthma.

Any age: Asthma can develop at any age.  Most children who develop asthma will have symptoms before 3 years old.  20% of adult onset asthma will have an occupational trigger for their asthma.  Old information suggested Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and old antihistamines could worsen asthma.  This is not the case, but the newer antihistamines such as claritin, zyrtec, and Allegra are effective and do have less side effects.
