No comparison: Ct ; MRI are indirect visualization modalities. Unlike colonoscopy (a direct optical exam of the colon lining), small lesions may be below the detection threshold of scanning. Also, colonoscopy affords the opporunity to biopsy the colon lining, to remove upon detection colon polyps (finding them on ct or MRI will only prompt undergoing a colonoscopy to get them out), as well as therapeutics.

Ct not sensitive: Ct scan is a useful tool for pre operative evaluation and postoperative surveillance, however most colon cances would not be detectable by standard cat scan unless they were very large, or had obvious spread to the liver. A colonoscopy is the most sensitive screening test. Ct colonoscopy can be almost as sensitive as colonoscopy, but is a specialized test and requires the same prep as a colonoscop.

: No. It can make the entire area  fuzzy or indistinct but not just colon- narrow in several areas.

Sometimes: Colonoscopy is the best test. Ct can sometimes find larger cancers. A special ct called ct colonography is better than regular ct for finding cancers but is is not a widely used test. Colonoscopy is your best bet.

Oral contrast: Most ct scans of the abdomen and pelvis are done with both IV and oral contrast. If you had oral contrast then that's what it likely is.

Yes: Yes it can but the slices of he scan need be small enough to determine the presence of a small herniation.  Ultrasound is probably a faster and cheaper method to evaluate for the hernia.

Discuss with doc: These dyes have had enormous clinical use and rarely cause any problems.  The only risk is ultra rare sensitivity which usually occurs in those who have had exposure to these in the past.  Discuss with your doctor who will be administering these to you to put you at ease.  You might need some pre-test anti-anxiety medication.
